Outreach Programs

Since 1977, the George C. Marshall ROTC Award Seminar has recognized the top senior cadets in military science and leadership studies from over 260 colleges and universities in the United States having an Army ROTC program.  Award winners are brought to the George C. Marshall Museum in Lexington, Virginia, for a four-day seminar on "The National Security of the United States."  The program is now co-sponsored by the United States Army Cadet Command.

The Marshall Undergraduate Scholarship Program annually enables promising college students to utilize the original documents and manuscripts of the Marshall Archives to develop a research paper.

The Marshall Foundation also sponsors or co-sponsors many other educational outreach initiatives, such as The Marshall Distinguished Lecture Series, George C. Marshall Institute for Public Service Leadership, Traveling Exhibits, Marshall Student Exchange Program, Adopt-A-Class Program, the George C. Marshall College Orientation Workshop, Marshall Engineering Fellowship, Marshall Day, and China Symposium.  We encourage you to visit this location frequently since it is an integral part of the educational programs for the George C. Marshall Foundation.

The Marshall Foundation recently launched the "Adopt-a-Class" educational program whereby sponsors donate copies of the new book George C. Marshall: Soldier and Statesman to upper elementary and middle school students. General Marshall was deeply interested in the education of young people. It is fitting that the book, a biographical account of George Marshall with illustrations suitable for coloring by readers of all ages, is available during the 50th anniversary of the Marshall Plan as a means to teach youth about Marshall’s outstanding service to his country and to the world.

Thanks to the generosity of individual and civic organization sponsors, the book has been donated to several schools in Texas, Virginia, North Carolina, New Mexico, and Pennsylvania through the Marshall Book "Adopt-a-Class" program. "The book gives history in a way that is very appealing to students," said a social studies teacher at Maury River Middle School in Lexington, Virginia.

Sponsors are able to provide this educational tool to the schools and at the same time receive immediate and long-lasting gratification for educating youth about George Marshall, who was known worldwide for his honesty, selfless character, and integrity. The program is flexible to meet each sponsor’s wishes.
